The rain-affected tie at the Gabba in Brisbane in the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024–25) between Australia and India caused both teams’ points percentages (PCT) in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings to decline. The visitors, who had been behind for the whole of the game, were able to avert defeat in spite of the difficult circumstances.
India wanted to maintain their lead in the WTC rankings going into the third Test, while the hosts wanted to take the lead in the series. Rain, however, had an effect on the game and hindered play for several sessions. On the last day, Australia declared their second innings at 89/7, leaving India with a goal of 275 runs and little time left. The officials ultimately decided to end in a draw due to poor light and the ongoing rain.
On both sides, there were some outstanding individual efforts during the game.
Travis Head of Australia was the most impressive player, taking a wicket later on after scoring a vital 152 in the first innings.
However, India needed on Ravindra Jadeja’s 77 and KL Rahul’s 84 to remove them from a precarious situation early on. In order to keep India in the game and avoid the follow-on, Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep’s last-wicket partnership added 39 runs.
Mohammed Siraj and Bumrah bowled brilliantly in Australia’s second innings, taking early wickets to keep the hosts to a modest total. Unfortunately, India just faced 2.1 overs in their second innings when the match was called off due to terrible light and rain.
Australia’s PCT decreased from 60.71% to 58.89% while India’s PCT decreased from 57.29% to 55.88% as a result of the draw, according to WTC. The rankings became much more convoluted after South Africa defeated Sri Lanka, moving them to the top with a PCT of 63.33%.
Here’s how the fans reacted to the Gabba Test ending in a draw:

Jasprit Bumrah is a national treasure. He needs the rest of his team to front up with bat and ball. Marnus Labuscagne needs a score soon.
