Watch: Shubman Gill leaves cheaply as Mitchell Marsh takes a stunner

On Monday, December 16, on Day 3 of the third Test match between Australia and India in Brisbane, Mitchell Marsh made a spectacular catch to eliminate Shubman Gill, showcasing his exceptional agility and quick reflexes.

Following Mitchell Starc’s dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal off the second delivery of the Indian innings, the Punjab batsman walked out to the middle. Shubman attempted to play an extravagant drive to a ball that was thrown deep outside off-stump in Starc’s second over. All the 25-year-old could manage while playing away from his body was a thick outside edge that sailed to Marsh’s left, where he was stationed at Gully.

With his torso nearly parallel to the ground, the Australian all-rounder dove to his left and caught the ball with both hands. After making the fantastic catch, Marsh was pleased with his accomplishment and went for a celebratory run. Gill faced three balls and left for just one run.

This was a crucial wicket in the overall scheme of the match. The last Test match Gill played at the legendary Gabba was against Australia in the 2020–2021 series, where he struck an incredible half-century. He will, however, have to wait until the second inning to have an effect this time.

Shubman Gill started the preceding Test match at the Adelaide Oval in both innings.

He was unable to translate them into meaningful scores, though. When he recalls the shot he offered to get out on Monday, the Firozpur native will not be pleased because he did not have to play at the wide delivery, especially when the ball was new.

Earlier in the day, Jasprit Bumrah finished with scores of 6/76 from 28 overs as the Indian bowlers dismissed Australia for 445. While Akash Deep and Nitish Kumar Reddy each contributed one wicket, Mohammed Siraj took two wickets.
