In the ongoing third Test match against India for the Border Gavaskar Trophy, Australian star batsman Steve Smith recorded his 33rd Test century. After poor performances in Perth and Adelaide, the Australian icon is now finding his footing in the series. On the second day of the Gabba Test, the Australians looked their best.
In the second Test at the Gabba, Steve Smith and Travis Head’s outstanding fourth-wicket combination helped the Australian hitters defeat the Indian spinners.
Steve Smith, the former Australian captain, was also playing well, even though Travis Head had initiated the attack during the game.
The elite batsman hit 12 boundaries and 101 runs off 190 deliveries. The two-time world champion gave a much-needed jolt.
After 536 days in Test cricket, he scored a century, marking the end of his slumping spell. He will be pleased that it has happened at one of the most famous locations in cricket history, and it gives him the confidence he needs to ultimately overcome his awful performance in the red-ball format. He will be frustrated that he was unable to extend his innings after reaching his milestone, but the fact that he has at last found some form in the series is encouraging for the Baggy Greens.
During his innings, Smith provided excellent support to Travis Head, and the two pushed the home team ahead with an amazing partnership of 241 runs off 302 deliveries at the fourth wicket. Smith provided the required anchor position during the partnership, while Travis Head kept taking on the bowlers. Smith’s grace and unconventional shot-making abilities, which have given him a household name in the game, have once again demonstrated why he is among the top batters in the league.
