I'll try and be ready to bowl as much as Pat Cummins needs me: Mitchell Marsh

It was uncertain whether Mitchell Marsh would be able to play in Adelaide for the second Test match against India. Though there were doubts over his bowling fitness, the team management announced a few days prior to the game that the star all-rounder would be included in the starting XI. Australia won the match by 10 wickets, despite Marsh bowling just four overs. The cricket player, who was born in Perth, said he is prepared to bowl more if skipper Pat Cummins calls for it.

In addition, he expressed gratitude to the team management for giving him a break between the series’ first and second Tests.

Marsh went on to say that he didn’t bowl as much before the series, but Pat Cummins and head coach Andrew McDonald encouraged him and he believes in the team’s plan for him.

No, not in my head. When Patty needs me, I’ll do my best to be prepared to bowl. Despite the fact that our all-rounders haven’t bowled much in Australia in recent years, I am incredibly grateful to our medical team, Ronny [coach Andrew McDonald], and Patty for giving me the time I needed to prepare for the match between the first and second Tests. In the lead-up to the series, I didn’t bowl as much as I would have liked to, but Ronnie and Patty, our medical staff, were quite explicit. That, I trusted. Marsha

Marsh discusses the contentious dismissal from Adelaide.

On the second day of the second Test, Ravichandran Ashwin made a powerful caught-behind appeal, and Mitchell Marsh walked off. Although he was not totally persuaded, umpire Richard Illingworth had to raise his finger when Marsh began to make his way back. Upon reflection, the cricket player said that although he felt as though he had hit the ball, the all-rounder put his hands on his head when he saw the replay in the dressing room.

The truth is that I didn’t hit it, even though I thought I had. [At the non-striker’s end], I didn’t talk to Heady. I had a mare. They asked me whether I hit it when I arrived at the changing rooms, and I replied, “Yeah, I smashed it.” A minute or so later, Marsh remarked, “everyone else was laughing at me after the replay showed the head going into the hands.”
