Rohit Sharma out of top 30 in ICC rankings After six years, Harry Brook replaces Joe Root as No. 1

Rohit Sharma fell out of the top 30 in the ICC rankings for Test cricket hitters for the first time in six years. The 37-year-old batter has only amassed 152 runs from 12 innings at a pitiful average of 11.83 in the 2024–25 season, which is disheartening given the game’s purest structure. In the present Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he was removed for single-digit scores in the second Test match between Australia and India.

After scoring seven and eleven in the second Test, former India captain Virat Kohli has dropped six spots to 20th place. After a spectacular century in the first Test match in Perth, he entered the match in high spirits.

After his brilliant performance against New Zealand in the first two Tests of the three-match series, Harry Brook of England is now the top Test batter. In just three innings, the right-handed batter has scored 349 runs at an incredible average of 116.33. The 25-year-old’s scores in his last three innings have been 171, 123, and 55. He takes Kane Williamson’s place at the top of the rankings, which was occupied by former England captain Joe Root in July of this year.

When India and Australia play one other in the third Test at the storied Gabba in Brisbane, beginning on Saturday, December 14, Rohit Sharma and Kohli will try to recover.

Following Australia’s convincing 10-wicket victory in the pink-ball match last week, the series is intriguingly tied at 1-1.

After winning the first two games in Christchurch and Wellington, England had already secured victory in the Test series against the Kiwis. In the next match, Brook will try to keep up his purple patch. Seddon Park in Hamilton will host the third and final Test match starting on Sunday, December 15.
