Steve Smith and Nathan McSweeney were the first wickets taken by India on Day 2 of the second, or pink-ball, Test match between Australia and India. At the time of their departure, the batters had scored two and 39 runs, respectively. After that, Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne set up a 65-run partnership for the fourth wicket, which helped to steady the innings.
Labuschagne left after 126 balls and 64 runs. Head’s partnership with Mitchell Marsh was essential, as he kept the scoreboard moving after taking his wicket. For the fifth wicket, the pair forged a 40-run partnership before Marsh walked off with 9 runs off 26 balls. Alex Carey then added 15 off 32 to form another 74-run partnership with him. Head was dealing with borders at the same time, occasionally keeping the ball past the boundary rope.
Mohammed Siraj had dropped his catch earlier, but he eventually cleaned up the southpaw. However, with the aid of 17 boundaries and four maximums, Travis Head had already reached 140 off 141 balls. In fast succession, the Indian bowlers were able to drive the tailenders back, and Australia amassed 337 runs with a 157-run lead.
Quick wickets were lost by India in the second innings.
Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah both took four wickets for India, while Nitish Reddy and Ravichandran Ashwin each took one. India was behind 157 runs and immediately lost Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, who could only add 11 and seven runs, respectively. Shubman Gill hit a rapid 28 off 30 and Yashasvi Jaiswal got a quick 24 off 31.
As India was struggling at 105/5, Rohit Sharma, the captain, also left the pitch prematurely (6 off 15). After surviving the final leg of the final session, Rishabh Pant and Nitish Kumar are undefeated with 28 and 15 runs, respectively. Team India scored 128/5, but they are still 29 runs behind.
Here’s how the fans reacted to Day 2 of the second Australia vs India Test:
I know Head is giving head ache to us but one main cause of it is the inability of r batters to score sufficient runs to make him useless fr his side .. so taking dig at him is indeed of no use .. #INDvsAUS #INDvAUS #BGT2024

Rohit n Gill are on fire in both innings, as a result, nobody can stop Australia from winning this test.#AUSvsIND #BGT2024

#INDvsAUS #BGT2024 if big guns arent firing, drop them on form and bring youth in. For next match, you cannot afford both Hitman and VK in same team. Gill up, Rahul to drop down. Reddy higher up, bring in Jurel. Rana has got to go.

As an Indian, I am proud of the way Mohammed Siraj celebrated Travis Head’s wicket.
This is Test cricket and we want to see Indians fired up on the field.
Travis Head batted well but that doesn’t mean Siraj can’t celebrate. #INDvsAUS pic.twitter.com/MuEceafmsM
