In the Adelaide Day-Night Test, Scott Boland hit KL Rahul with his first ball. The ball was quite near Rahul’s bat, bounced nicely, and was nipping away. Rahul was heading back to the pavilion after the Australian team made a strong appeal and the on-field umpire curiously raised his finger. The India opener in Adelaide was spared, though, when the third umpire ruled a front-foot no-ball.
The ball didn’t touch KL Rahul bat, as was later shown on replay, but the batter didn’t realise this since he chose not to request a review and continued walking back to the pavilion.
Rahul was ultimately saved in the middle by the no-ball, even though Virat Kohli was preparing to enter near the boundary ropes.

Dropped in the slips was the 32-year-old in the same over. After diving to his right, he edged Boland, but Usman Khawaja, who was positioned in the first slip, was unable to seize it. Khawaja could have grabbed the ball if he had dived a second earlier, but it wasn’t a typical slip catch. Rahul thus managed to survive twice in a single over.

Another quick wicket would have placed the visitors in difficulties, as India had already lost the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal in the opening ball of the match. However, Rahul was able to get past a sliced one for a boundary in the very next over. Shubman Gill, who appeared to be in superb touch at the other end, should give him confidence and help him form a strong partnership.
In addition to Gill, Ravichandran Ashwin and Rohit Sharma have rejoined the playing eleven. The birth of his kid caused the India skipper to miss the Perth Test, while Ashwin was sidelined for tactical reasons. Jurel was replaced in the playing XI by Rohit, while Washington Sundar was replaced by the off-spinner, who has an outstanding record in Pink Ball Tests.
