'I don't understand why we need to change it'- Rohit Sharma spills the beans on India's opening combination in pink-ball Test

In the second Test match against Australia at the Adelaide Oval, which begins on Friday, December 6, Rohit Sharma is ready to display his altruistic side as he gets ready to return to his position as a middle-order batsman for India. The Indian captain will give up his starting position for the pink-ball match, while the Asian powerhouses’ KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal will remain at the top of the order.

In the opening partnership of the first Test between Australia and India in Perth, Rahul and Yashasvi stitched a match-winning 201 runs. This encounter was missed by Rohit, who remained in India with his wife after they were gifted with their second kid.

Fans were curious about Rohit Sharma potential return to the middle order, particularly after he batted at number four in last week’s warm-up match against the Prime Minister’s XI.

During the pre-match news conference, Rohit Sharma made it clear that Rahul will bat “somewhere in the middle” in the much awaited Adelaide Test and that he would continue to bat at the top alongside Yashasvi.

We obviously want success and results, and those two men at the top batted superbly in this one Test match, which is how I decided to bat lower in the order. While I was at home holding my newborn, I observed KL’s batting technique. It was very entertaining to watch. I thought there was no reason to change that at this time. Things might be different in the future. “I’m not sure,” claimed the 37-year-old.

According to what has transpired and what KL Rahul has demonstrated outside of India, he most likely merits that position at this time. We have achieved success in the first Test because of this. You know, we probably won the Test match because of that one significant relationship you have with Jaiswal on the opposing side. It’s a huge checkmark when you arrive here, in a location like Perth, and you score 500 runs or whatever. I fail to see why we should alter it. There was nothing that needed to be changed, and everything that I could see from the outside looked fantastic,” he said.

Rohit stated that it was difficult for him to put up a personal front and give up his starting position. But when he put the team’s interest first, it became clear for him.

“I found it to be fairly easy. For me, it’s difficult. However, the great hitter said, “It made a lot of sense for the team.”
