In their most recent second Test match against Bangladesh, West Indies bowlers Jayden Seales and Kevin Sinclair were found guilty of violating the ICC Code of Conduct.
Article 2.20 of the ICC Code of behaviour for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with “conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game,” was broken by Seales, who was fined 25% of his match fee.
Seales’ disciplinary record has also been hit with one demerit point because it was his first infraction in a 24-month period.
After getting a wicket in the opening over of Bangladesh’s second batting innings, Seales made an inappropriate and excessively hostile gesture towards the opposition’s dressing room.
Article 2.4 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with “Disobeying an Umpire’s instruction during an International Match,” was broken by Sinclair, who was fined 15% of his match fee.
In addition to the fine, Kevin Sinclair disciplinary record now has one demerit point added because it was his first infraction in 24 months.
Sinclair disregarded the on-field umpires’ orders to refrain from using abusive and hostile words against the Bangladeshi batsmen, which led to the incident.
Because Seales and Sinclair both acknowledged their transgressions and agreed to the penalties suggested by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, a formal hearing was not required.
Third umpire Nitin Menon, fourth umpire Zahid Bassarath, and on-field umpires Asif Yaqoob and Kumar Dharmasena made the accusations.
A player who violates Level 1 rules faces a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50% of their match money, and one or two demerit points.
