'Hopefully that can happen soon'- Sam Konstas opens up on his dream of making his Australian debut

On Sunday, December 1, Sam Konstas scored a century off of 90 balls for the Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra against India. When the top order was unable to capitalise, he hit 107 runs with 14 boundaries and one maximum. Konstas has joked that he is in the appropriate frame of mind to play for Australia at the highest level as they attempt to win the series again following the defeat in Perth.

He recently scored twin tonnes in a Sheffield Shield match, making him the youngest player to do so. Ricky Ponting had accomplished this accomplishment before him, making him the first player to do it. He hit an undefeated 73 for Australia A against India A at the MCG in November after going through a difficult time. However, Australia called Nathan McSweeney to open alongside Usman Khawaja and don the baggy green, so the opener had to wait.

“I hope that can happen soon since I truly want the opportunity and I enjoy challenges. I think my mental state is good. I’ve experienced the best few months of my life, and I aim to represent my nation someday. I try to put myself forward by concentrating on Friday and then attempting to score runs. “To represent my country one day would be an immense honour,” Konstas remarked.

It’s all about living in the now: Sam Konstas

Following his spectacular Australian summer, Shane Watson, David Warner, and Steven Smith lavished the 19-year-old with praise. Additionally, he played for Australia’s Under-19 squad, who won the World Cup in the end. Konstas stated that he aspires to be “the best version of myself” and that he is unaffected by the attention that is lavished upon him.

“[The hype] doesn’t really bother me. It’s about being the best version of myself in the here and now, and then ideally letting the outcome work itself out,” he continued.
