AUS vs IND: Gautam Gambhir jets off to rejoin India Test team in Australia

Australia is the host and India is the visitor in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25) in Adelaide. Significantly, Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of India, had returned home for personal reasons before to the second Test, which is set to begin on December 6. Gambhir, who did not participate in the most recent practice match, is anticipated to return to the Indian camp on Tuesday, according to the most recent development.

For those who are unaware, the team’s current coach and former Indian opener flew out of Australia on November 26. In order to handle training sessions, prepare strategy, and keep an eye on players while his absence, Abhishek Nayar, Morne Morkel, and Ryan ten Doeschate were assigned to the support staff. The trio was also in charge of the team when they faced the Prime Minister’s XI in a pink-ball test. In the end, Team India won despite though the match was shortened to 46 overs because of the constant rain.

There are several questions around the thought tank along with the usual skipper, Rohit Sharma, for the second BGT Test series, which would be a day-night pink-ball test. For those who are unfamiliar, Sharma missed the first Test since he had just given birth to a child and had not flown with the team. When he was not available, bowler Jasprit Bumrah assumed the role of captain and guided the team to a resounding 295-run victory over Australia in Perth.

Gautam Gambhir faces a batting and selection dilemma before the second Test.

Shubman Gill, the team’s starting batter, had fractured his right thumb, although he also showed encouraging signs of recovery during the warm-up match, raising fears about injuries. Due to the outstanding batting performances of KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal, the squad is currently faced with a selection and slot dilemma.

Thus, once he joins the club, Gautam Gambhir is anticipated to have a voice in any potential batting order changes as well as other relevant matters. India now holds a 1-0 advantage in the five-test series against Australia.
