Who is Gurjapneet Singh? - All you need know about CSK's INR 2.2 crore pace sensation

The Chennai Super Kings,(CSK) the joint-most successful team, paid INR 2.2 crore for left-arm bowler Gurjapneet Singh in the ongoing IPL 2025 mega-auction in Jeddah, making headlines.

Gurjapneet, who stands 6’3″, infuses the team’s bowling arsenal with a distinctive left-arm pace option. Gurjapneet was born in Ludhiana, Punjab, and grew up in Ambala, Haryana. When he was seventeen, he relocated to Chennai. Due to his new location, he would be able to play domestic cricket, something the towering speedster had never anticipated.

When Gurjapneet made his spectacular Ranji Trophy debut against Saurashtra, he put on an outstanding display, taking six wickets for just 22 runs—the most by a fast bowler from Tamil Nadu at home since the 2005–06 campaign.

After a lower back injury put a temporary stop to his growth, he had to have surgery and missed a large portion of 2022. But Gurjapneet’s resilience allowed him to make a strong recovery, progressively increasing his bowling effort in league cricket, especially in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).

CSK has kept a careful eye on Gurjapneet’s development.

He first played for the team as a net bowler, and both coaches and players were interested in him. He was a desirable prospect because he could bowl well in the final overs and swing the new ball successfully.

Among his many outstanding performances was when Gurjapneet made his historic Ranji Trophy debut and famously bowled Cheteshwar Pujara for a duck. Additionally, during net sessions, he has bowled to elite players like Virat Kohli. The Ranji and white-ball teams of Tamil Nadu have been reinforced by Gurjapneet due to T Natarajan’s present injury.
