India-Australia rivalry is bigger than the Ashes: Australian PM Anthony Albanese

In cricket, England and Australia’s Ashes rivalry is regarded as the greatest. India and Australia compete for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024–25), which has drawn a lot of attention recently, particularly after the Men in Blue defeated the Baggy Greens in their last four series against one another.

The rivalry between Australia and India is more significant than the Ashes, according to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of Australia. One noteworthy development is that, for the first time since 1992, India and Australia are currently playing each other in a five-match Test series. The Asian powerhouses won the first Test by 295 runs at the Optus Stadium in Perth, putting them ahead 1-0 in the series.

According to the populace, the IPL now plays a significant role in international cricket. Prime Minister Modi, the crowd was huge when I attended the test match at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In response to a question on Fox Sports comparing the Ashes and Border-Gavaskar rivalries, Albanese commented, “Of course, it seats more people than any ground in the world and they’re so passionate.”

Going forward, he claimed that the rivalry between the two teams has become more intense due to the five-match Test series. The 61-year-old believes that the historical Melbourne Cricket Ground’s Boxing Day Test will be a spectacular event.

Naturally, the World Test Championship, an international cricket series, was held in London, where we played the final. There is a genuine competitiveness in the series, and even though we were successful there, I would now recommend even more. In the past, it was occasionally merely a three-test series. I believe they could get the 100,000 people there, and it’s going to be a huge Boxing Day on December 26. It’s also fantastic for Australian tourism,” he continued.

The Indian team was hosted in Canberra by PM Anthony Albanese.

Before playing the Prime Minister’s XI in a two-day warm-up match, the Indian contingent was recently entertained by the Albanese in Canberra. In addition to sharing the meeting’s photos on his X account, the Australian Prime Minister had lighthearted discussions with the players. He also congratulated Virat Kohli, the former captain of India, on reaching his 81st century in international cricket during the first Test’s second innings.
