‘Obviously a massively disappointing result’- Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley reflects on ODI series loss to Pakistan

Despite a close win in the first ODI, Australia recently lost a three-game ODI series to Pakistan. Pakistan won the series after a great comeback, defeating the Men in Yellow in the second and third ODIs.

Cricket Australia’s CEO, Nick Hockley, recently took center stage following the series defeat and called the series loss to Pakistan “very disappointing.” He further supported the selectors’ choice to release the players who were scheduled to play in the BGT 2024–25 between the ODI series.

“In the past, we have faced criticism for not allowing new players to into the game. “I believe there was a strategy in place, and that strategy was to ensure that our all-format players were in top form for

The forthcoming Border-Gavaskar series,” the Indian Express cited Nick Hockley as stating.

“Obviously, this was a very disappointing outcome, but I believe it was a great chance to show off some of the talent in the face of international cricket pressures,” he continued.

I am somewhat perplexed: Michael Clarke

Former Australia captain Michael Clarke recently had a different perspective on the defeat to Pakistan in the ODI series. Because the BGT 2024-25 forced the selectors to let go of some key players, Clarke believed that they did not care about losing the series.

I’m just a little perplexed. What is the reason for the Australian lads participating in this Test series not being able to play in the one-dayer with 11 days till the first Test [in Perth]? Clarke stated during the Big Sport Breakfast radio show.

He went on to say, “You can understand why they rest their big fish if Australia had won the first two games, but it was [the] series on the line.”

Noteworthy is the fact that Australia will play three Twenty20 Internationals in their white ball series against Pakistan, while the main players will play India in the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar series.
