'Jemi, your over extra cover drive is the best'- Jemimah Rodrigues reveals Grace Harris, Laura Harris' motivating text

Jemimah Rodrigues, the star batter for the Indian women’s team, is returning to Australia for the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL 2024-25). She is presently playing for the Brisbane Heat in her third WBBL season; her last appearance was with the Melbourne Stars in 2022. In her four games with the Heat thus far, she has amassed 124 runs at a strike rate of 145.88, 16 boundaries, and one maximum.

After a lackluster start to her WBBL 2024 campaign, Jemimah gave it her all against the Adelaide Strikers. In just 40 balls, she scored 61 runs, including seven boundaries and one maximum. She won Player of the Match, and the 24-year-old attributed the game’s offensive Australian mentality to Grace Harris and Laura Harris.

“I don’t think my final two innings [in the WBBL] went very well. I received a text from Grace Harris and Laura Harris saying, “Jemi, your over-extra cover drive is the best.” Please don’t stop playing that. If you leave, it’s okay too. But just keep controlling,” Jemimah remarked, as cited.

To have that sort of support, first from your team that they still believe in you and, at the same time, just say, ‘No, we’re still going to pursue the positive road,’ is what I think really helped me in [the Strikers] knock. “We will continue to play constructive cricket and bat with purpose,” she continued.

They said, “Just go all out,” which was extremely helpful to me. Jemimah Rodrigues

Australia has long been praised for their mentality both on and off the field; both the men’s and women’s international teams share this trait. Regarding the women’s teams, they have a record of winning the T20 World Cup six times without losing. Having traveled extensively in Australia, thanks to WBBL, Jemimah joked that she would remember the Aussies’ “go all out” mentality.

“That mindset is absolutely true—just to pick up some tips from them [Australians].” The adage goes, “If there are two options, always choose the positive one.” Having others around after two failures made me wonder if I should continue playing with this mindset or not. I believe that is something I have also been working on a lot in my game. But the 24-year-old batter went on.

Their advice to “just go all out” was incredibly helpful to me. I will definitely take this with me, and I hope to show it off to the Australians and just keep doing well,” Jemimah said.
