Twitter Reactions: Stubbs-Coetzee pulls South Africa out of trouble as hosts level series

India and South Africa played their second match in their ongoing Twenty20 International series. India led the series going into the match after the Men in Blue won the previous encounter by a score of 61 runs. The two teams faced off at St George’s Park, Gqeberha, on Sunday, November 10.

India was put in to bat first in the match after South Africa won the toss. With the ball, the Proteas played brilliantly and placed India in a difficult situation. Abhishek Sharma scored just four runs in the opening innings while India’s Sanju Samson left for a duck. Moreover, Suryakumar Yadav hit four runs prior to being dismissed.

Following the failure of the top order, Tilak Varma and Axar Patel scored 20 and 27 runs, respectively, in an effort to steady the Indian innings. A total of 124 runs were scored by India in the first innings of the match, with Hardik Pandya scoring the most with 39 runs.

Nqabayomzi Peter, Aiden Markram, Andile Simelane, Gerald Coetzee, and Marco Jansen all claimed one wicket apiece for South Africa.

The Indian team, who had come in to chase down a goal of 125 runs, also thwarted South Africa’s ambitions. Aiden Markram left the Proteas after just three runs, while openers Ryan Rickelton and Reeza Hendricks scored 13 and 24 runs, respectively.

In addition, Heinrich Klaasen and Marco Jansen each scored two and seven runs, while David Miller left for a duck. The series was levelled by the knocks of Gerald Coetzee and Tristan Stubbs, as the majority of South Africa’s batting order was in the pavilion.

Coetzee struck a rapid 19* runs in nine deliveries, while Stubbs hit 47* runs in 41 deliveries, helping South Africa win by three wickets.
