The retention lists for every Indian Premier League (IPL) team were made public on October 31. Up to six players, including an uncapped player, may be retained by teams, according to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Due to their decision to keep six players and spend their cap, the Rajasthan Royals are no longer able to activate the Right to Match card.
The rationale behind keeping six players and losing 79 crore of their 120 crore auction prize has been disclosed by RR Head Coach Rahul Dravid. Sandeep Sharma, Riyan Parag, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shimron Hetmyer, Dhruv Jurel, and Sanju Samson are the players that have been kept on. Dravid went on to say that preserving the team’s core and trust was the reason to put everything into the retention procedure.
The decision has been made to perform six of the six retentions. Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer, Sandeep Sharma, Sanju Samson, and Yashasvi Jaiswal will all remain with us. Because we believed in our talent, we made this choice. Dravid added, “We also have faith that we wish to uphold and expand upon that core.”
When you keep six players, stability is unquestionably present. We were only able to keep six players, but we definitely would have kept more if we had been able to do more. We think the guys that we have kept deserve it. When you go to the auction, you obviously have less money, but you can see how you need to assemble the entire team after you have blocked some areas of stability,” he continued.
Samson will also serve as our captain going forward: Rahul Dravid
In addition to leading RR to the IPL 2022 finals, Samson joined the team in 2018. He was a member of the franchise from 2013 to 2015. Dravid reiterated that it was “no-brainer” to keep the Kerala batter. He also mentioned the right-hander batter’s involvement in team decision-making. Sanju Samson serves as our captain, wicketkeeper, and batsman. He has led this team as captain for many years.
