The well-set Daryl Mitchell was dismissed by veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin with a spectacular diving catch in the last 30 minutes of Day 2 of the current Test match between India and New Zealand in Mumbai. The dismissal occurred while the visitors were trying to increase their lead in the second innings.
At the beginning of the second innings, the Kiwis were behind by 28 runs, but they had begun to gain ground thanks to a consistent partnership. Mitchell was looking threatening at 21 after batting beautifully with a strong 82 in the first innings.
With the Kiwis at 94/3 at the end of the second day’s last session, left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja was introduced into the attack. In an attempt to make a big shot, Mitchell ran down the track towards Jadeja. But the ball stuck to the surface, and Mitchell missed the shot.
In order to get a better look at the ball, Ashwin began trailing back at mid-off and moved sideways instead of trying an over-the-shoulder catch.

the catch just inches from the ground as the ball started to escape his grasp. While making the catch, the veteran made sure the ball stayed in his grasp even as it fell hard to the ground.

In the meantime, Rachin Ravindra was the first wicket taken by Ashwin, who had gone wicketless in the first innings. Later, with a beautiful carrom ball that shook Glenn Phillips’ stumps, he claimed another wicket.
