The Kiwis’ left-arm spinner, Ajaz Patel, was the first to assess the surface as soon as the Black Caps arrived at the Taj Mahal Palace in Colaba and then the Wankhede Stadium following a few hours of rest. “Mumbai is a special place for me, not just because I was born here and have family ties, but because Wankhede was the scene of my greatest achievement in cricket,” 36-year-old Patel said tearfully during a news conference interview.

Since the amazing achievement, Patel acknowledged that he has not been getting enough playing time. In terms of his professional career, he was explicit about his goals, though.
Although I haven’t had as many playing opportunities since the 10-fer, every opportunity I get to represent New Zealand is unique. I don’t consider it a given, whether it’s here or at home. “I’m just focused on giving it my all in the next test, even though the expectations are high,” Patel said.

The fervour with which cricket fans in the two nations support their teams was also contrasted by Patel.

At the age of eight, Patel’s family relocated to New Zealand. He and his extended family, who reside in Mumbai, remained close, nonetheless. Patel, who has so far had a fairly lacklustre series, would be anticipated to do well in what could be considered his home away from home.
