Question remains whether Rohit Sharma will be retained: Harbhajan Singh

Before the October 31 IPL Retention Day, the Mumbai Indians are one of the most talked-about teams. The five-time champions have placed last twice in the last three years, which has angered the team owners. They brought Hardik Pandya in as captain last year after dismissing Rohit Sharma, but that approach again backfired. Since then, Rohit’s future in Mumbai has been the subject of numerous conversations, but the franchise has remained silent.

Harbhajan Singh, a former cricket player, examined Mumbai’s potential IPL 2025 retentions and pointed out that Rohit’s retention is uncertain. The spinner is unsure about Rohit, but he thinks the team would undoubtedly keep Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Suryakumar Yadav. Additionally, he thinks that whatever Mumbai decides would reveal their future way of thinking.

Over the past two to three years, the Mumbai Indians have not performed well. As far as I’m aware, they will undoubtedly consider assembling a squad for the future because they have been a champion team and a very good team. However, it doesn’t mean they won’t bring in more seasoned players this season. Hardik Pandya was named captain last year, and I believe he will be kept on, Harbhajan told Star Sports.

The 44-year-old continued, “Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav will be kept, but it’s still unclear if Rohit Sharma will be kept.”

He did, however, remind MI that Rohit had just won a World Cup as captain and that they ought to keep him on board for the same reason. In addition, Harbhajan thinks the franchise can consider Nehal Wadhera in the uncapped category and Tilak Varma as one of the choices.

“I believe he should be kept, and he will be, since he recently won the World Cup as captain. That brings the total number of players to four. Tilak Varma will be kept if there is a fifth player. One of the players who will help the Mumbai Indians win games in the future is Tilak Varma.

I don’t believe they would want to keep anyone else when it comes to bowling, therefore Nehal Wadhera would be a solid choice. He should be selected since he is an uncapped player,” he continued.
