Will Young was dismissed on the first day of the second Test match between India and New Zealand at Pune’s MCA Stadium due to a combination of alertness, coordination, and persuasive skills. Young gloved the floated delivery that R Ashwin made down the leg-side. However, Ashwin and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant didn’t seem persuaded.
But right away, Sarfaraz Khan, who was positioned at backward short-leg, went up.
The captain, Rohit Sharma, was quickly convinced to go upstairs by Virat Kohli, who had come running in from midwicket. When the ball passed his glove and the Ultra-Edge showed a tiny spike, Young knew it was over after Rohit complied.
In the commentary panel, former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull was all praise for Sarfaraz and Kohli’s quick thinking in their successful attempt to get Rohit to take the review. Ravindra maintains his position with a strong half-century.
After reaching a half-century during the first day’s play, Rachin Ravindra carried on with his excellent form. After Young was dismissed, he came in to bat and skilfully used the depth of the crease to navigate the Indian spinners. His half-century cemented New Zealand’s successful start on Day 1, but he was undone by a dream delivery from Washington Sundar at the stroke of tea.
