My dad left the stadium and returned home after we scored 800 in Multan Test: Rehan Ahmad

Rehan Ahmed, an English leg-spinner, related how his father, Naeem Ahmed, departed the Multan Cricket Stadium during the first Test match between England and Pakistan during which the Three Lions scored an incredible 823 in their opening innings. Pakistan’s massive first innings total of 556 was humiliated by England thanks to Joe Root’s outstanding 262 and Harry Brook’s first triple century.

According to Rehan, his father was not pleased that Pakistan was unable to capitalise on the high score they had set in the first innings. In 2001, Rehan’s father, who was born in Pakistan, moved to England. Raheem and Farhan, Rehan’s brothers, have not yet represented their country in international cricket, but Rehan has.

After Pakistan was bowled out for 220 in the second innings, the British won the first Test by an innings and 47 runs. Shan Masood, a southpaw who took over as captain of Pakistan in red-ball cricket last year when Babar Azam was replaced, suffered his sixth straight Test loss.

“My dad left the stadium and returned home four hours away after we defeated Pakistan by 800 in that first Test because he didn’t see his side winning anything. Although he makes an effort to appear indifferent, I can tell that he is worried about his team’s performance. “He wants us to perform well all the time, but he doesn’t want us to perform so well that his team loses,” Rehan said on the BBC Test Match special.

Rehan Ahmed is recalled.

When he was just 18 years old, the young player made his debut during England’s previous Test tour of Pakistan in 2022. He faced India earlier this year in the final of his four Test matches. Although he was part of the team for the first two Test matches against Pakistan, he was unable to crack the starting lineup.

But the pivotal third Test, which begins on October 24 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, has given him a chance. Last week, Pakistan came back to win the second Test in Multan by 152 runs, tying the three-match Test series at one.
