After leading the team to the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 final, South Africa’s interim coach, Dillon du Preez, recently stated that he was uncertain about his future with the team. According to his recent admission, he is unsure if he will continue.
Because Hilton Moreeng decided to leave in May 2024, the former Proteas player has been leading the team ever then. The USA women’s senior and under-19 teams were then coached by Moreeng, and Du Preez was promoted to head coach with little to no time remaining after Moreeng’s departure. Du Preez seemed uncertain about his desire to stay in the position, though.
“That was a really trying month or two. I heard that Hilton had moved on when we just learnt that CSA was looking to extend us. Enoch Nkwe, the director of cricket at the DOC, requested me to lead the team to India. “I didn’t want to be the guy that throws the cart off the mountain or anything,” Du Preez said, adding that it was nerve-racking because it was the lead-up to a World Cup.

Interestingly, Du Preez wanted complete openness with Cricket South Africa about everything. In his presence, Du Preez recently emphasised the value of a healthy team culture within the club, and the board named Baakier Abrahams as the team’s full-time batting coach.
