Protesters demand Shakib Al Hasan's homecoming for farewell test

Shakib Al Hasan, the former captain of Bangladesh, was scheduled to play his final Test match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. Shakib also had to deal with the heat as political turmoil flooded his chances of going back to Bangladesh, where the rallies sparked the country’s insurrection.

On October 17, however, Shakib acknowledged that he had withdrawn from the Mirpur Test as recommended by the authorities for security-related concerns. Asif Mahmud, a youth and sports adviser, also informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to exclude the all-rounder from the competition. However, around fifty demonstrators who identified as “Shakibians” demonstrated on October 20.

“I was supposed to go back home, but I don’t think I can just now. According to Sportstar, Shakib stated, “It is about a security issue, a matter of my own security.”

Although several unidentified males intervened and dispersed the demonstrators in the immediate aftermath, security personnel also joined the cause. The demonstrators called for Shakib to take part in the Mirpur Test. It is important to note that the opening Test in the two-match Test series between South Africa and Bangladesh is set to start on October 21.

Shakib Al Hasan has continued to play Test cricket outside of Bangladesh.

For those who are unaware, Shakib Al Hasan served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Awami League party, which was led by Sheikh Hasina, the former prime minister, and against whom the populace demonstrated before to her departure.
