Mohsin Naqvi, chairman of PCB, gives Aaqib Javed a free hand in selection

Under the leadership of the selection committee, Aaqib Javed, Pakistan achieved their first home Test victory in more than three years. Since Chairman Mohsin Naqvi gave Javed the go-ahead to make drastic adjustments meant to get rid of internal cliques and boost team productivity, the team has been successful.

Javed asked for and was granted complete liberty to lead the team back to winning ways following a meeting between Mohsin Naqvi and Javed.

This choice has already produced positive outcomes, as the team has undergone a number of significant changes.

One of the most significant modifications was the selection committee’s decrease from eleven to six members. A more balanced decision-making process and less player power are the goals of this downsizing. In the past, coaches and captains were frequently hesitant to vote against older players; but, the new, more efficient committee should enable more impartial choices based on current performance and quality.

The third test will see a fresh preparation of the Rawalpindi pitch.

For the second and third Test matches against England, Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi were both benched. Even though their recent results had fallen short of expectations, the goal of this decision was to break up existing divisions among the team and foster unity.

The previous strict fitness requirements have been temporarily loosened, which is another shift. Players like Zahid Mahmood and Noman Ali, who had previously fallen short of the necessary fitness standards, were able to join the playing XI as a result. To meet the team’s urgent needs, this leniency is thought to be a temporary solution.

As Pakistan gets ready for the third and final Test match against England in Rawalpindi, which begins on October 24, the consequences of these adjustments are becoming more noticeable. On Monday, training sessions will start for both teams as they board a chartered flight from Multan to Rawalpindi.

The forthcoming game at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is especially important because England is currently the team with the advantage there.

Even though Pakistani hitters put on strong performances in the match last year, the tourists won by 74 runs. The pitch is being prepped differently this time, though, in an effort to contain the English squad.
