IND vs NZ 2024: Virat Kohli overtake MS Dhoni to become India's 2nd-most capped player

Virat Kohli, the star batsman for India, made history again by becoming the team’s second-most-capped player. He is currently in second place after surpassing former India captain MS Dhoni. It is important to note that after being selected for India’s opening Test match against New Zealand, Kohli rose to become the team’s second-most-capped player.

While MS Dhoni has 535 caps between 2004 and 2019, Kohli’s 536th international encounter will be the first Test match versus New Zealand. Legendary former Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar leads the list of most caps with an incredible 664 appearances across formats during a career that lasted from 1989 to 2013, with Kohli in second place.

It is noteworthy that the players with the most caps, following Kohli, are Rohit Sharma (486), followed by Ravindra Jadeja (346). It’s interesting to note that Virat Kohli has played 115 Test matches in his career, scoring 8947 runs with 29 hundreds and 30 half-centuries.

India looking to book WTC final berth

Speaking of the Indian team, they are among the strongest candidates to advance to the 2025 World Test Championship final. The team captained by Rohit Sharma is currently leading the WTC standings. India has won eight of their eleven Test matches, lost two, and drawn one. The team has 98 points, and they will be hoping for strong results in the NZ series to bolster their argument.

It is important to remember that India will only need to win one Test in the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar series against Australia to advance to the WTC final if they whitewash the BlackCaps in the three-game series.
