IND vs NZ 2024: Virat Kohli becomes active cricketer with joint-most ducks

In the first Test match, India faced New Zealand in Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium. India won the flip on Day 2 of the Test, choosing to bat first after Day 1 was called off without a toss on October 16. As his struggle was evident during his nine-ball stint, Virat Kohli followed suit after Rohit Sharma was undone in the seventh over.

For the veteran, Tom Latham fielded six slips, and he edged one to the leg slip without opening his account. He unintentionally set a record for the most ducks registered by an active international cricket player in the process. He got dismissed without getting off the mark 38 times to share the spit with New Zealand pacer, Tim Southee. Rohit, who has 33 ducks, is ranked third on the leaderboard.

Active cricketers with most ducks in internationals:
S.No. Player Name Country Ducks
1 Tim Southee New Zealand 38
– Virat Kohli India 38
2 Rohit Sharma India 33

The New Zealand pacers tore apart the Indian top order, taking advantage of the cloudy Bengaluru weather. William O’Rourke outwitted Kohli, and Southee thoroughly outplayed the India skipper. After initially struggling, Sarfaraz Khan (0) tried to hit Matt Henry with a huge heave and hole out to Devon Conway.

Rohit joked at the toss that the surface was sticky and that he was going for runs by batting first.

It has been covered, and we are aware that it might be a little sticky in the beginning, but you would want to score runs first because of the way the pitch is set up. As much as we desire the outcome, so do you.
