"That is something we need to consider''- Shelley Nitschke sheds light on replacements for Alyssa Healy and Tayla Vlaeminck

When it comes to their 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup campaign, Australia Women are leading the way thus far. They have won all three of the games they have played thus far with relative ease. On the other hand, two injuries that occurred to captain Alyssa Healy and pacer Tayla Vlaeminck on each side of the innings break have raised concerns for the remainder of the tournament.

Interestingly, Vlaeminck hurt herself trying to block a boundary at the third-man fence on the fourth delivery of the game, which resulted in her dislocating her shoulder and forcing her out of the match. As Healy batted on an undefeated 37* from 23 deliveries, he hobbled off the field, retiring hurt. Additional scans revealed that her right foot had suffered an acute damage.

Shelley Nitschke, the head coach of Australia Women, offered her opinions on the wounds.

She did not disclose the extent of the injuries, but she did state that the management planned to replace the injured personnel as quickly as possible.

Indeed, we would substitute players if necessary. Nitschke was cited by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as saying, “We have to make sure we have some coverage because two (players) went off injured tonight. It depends on the prognosis of those two injuries, but that is something we need to think about.”

Players who could step in to replace Tayla Vlaeminck and Alyssa Healy

Vlaeminck and Healy are essential parts of the Australian apparatus. Due to their injuries, Australia will need to look far and wide for appropriate replacements. Darcie Brown and Kim Garth, two right-arm seamers, could take over for Vlaemicnk directly.

However, Grace Harris might open the batting in Healy’s place. Should Healy be declared out, Beth Mooney will take over as wicketkeeper and Tahlia McGrath will captain the team.
