Rohit Sharma Day 1 half-century earned Ravi Shastri's highest praise: "Much like Viru at his best."

After comparing the current Indian captain Rohit Sharma batting style to that of the famous Virender Sehwag, former Indian cricketer and head coach Ravi Shastri has awarded the highest accolade to Rohit Sharma. On Day 1 of the Nagpur Test, Rohit reached his first Test half-century as skipper, and he currently exhibits ominous form.

It was Rohit Sharma turn to put pressure on the Australians after a superb bowling performance on the first day of the first Test limited the visitors to a below-par score. The flashy opener attempted to score runs in a steady opening stand with KL Rahul while remaining mostly unperturbed at the crease.

During Rohit’s time with the national team, former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri, who has worked closely with him, said his batting approach is comparable to Virender Sehwag’s. Similar to Sehwag, the new Indian captain’s aggressive determination at the crease prevents the bowlers from settling.

“Rohit remains there and swiftly obtains it. No bowler will be able to settle with him. Much as when Viru is at his best, runs will arrive. When Virender Sehwag was on form, he made the middle order’s job much simpler by really going at the opposition right away. That will be his responsibility, according to Shastri, who was speaking on the ICC Review show.

Rohit Sharma, I don’t believe he has anything to prove to anyone strategically or otherwise: Shastri

Since taking over for Virat Kohli as captain, the Indian opener has played in just two Test matches, therefore his leadership abilities have not been put to the test. Shastri, though, asserted that there is no exam because he has already demonstrated his qualifications for captaincy. He believes that the captain of the Mumbai Indians is an excellent game reader and “does his study” prior to every game.

“It’s not a test of his leadership, in my opinion. He’s moved past that. Let’s not forget about his spectacular performance as an opening batter in India. He is also a very good captain and a cunning tactician. On a tactical level, I’m fine. He’ll carry it out. He is competent and knows when to act. As a captain, I don’t believe he has anything to prove to anyone tactically ” His schoolwork is completed. He does his homework quite well. He is highly focused on, I wouldn’t say stats, but he will figure out a lot of things with the analyst. His knowledge of tactics “said the former Indian cricketer.
