“Absolute rubbish!” – CSK fielding coach on ‘fake news’ claiming Dhoni broke TV set after RCB loss

"MSD did not break anything and I have never seen him aggressive after a match," said CSK assistant coach.

MS Dhoni

The rumours that MS Dhoni once damaged a television set out of rage during the 2024 Indian Premier League have been refuted by Tommy Simsek, the fielding coach for the Chennai Super Kings. At the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, match 68 of the competition saw the hosts, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, whirl away in celebration for a considerable amount of time following a tight victory to advance to the playoffs. After a lengthy celebration, the CSK officials and players remained on the pitch, waiting in queue to congratulate the home team on their 27-run triumph.

MS Dhoni was seen to break away from the queue with an oddly serious expression on his face. His 13-ball, 25-run innings was insufficient as he was removed on the second delivery of the last over. He left for the dressing room as the other CSK players finally shook hands with the jubilant RCB team, having finished their celebration of beating their bitter rivals to earn a postseason spot.

In a recent interview with Sports Yaari, Harbhajan Singh, Dhoni’s former teammate for both India and CSK (2018–20), disclosed that Dhoni’s annoyance did not stop when he left the pitch; rather, it culminated in him punching a TV screen that was kept outside the visitors’ dressing room.

Dhoni will probably play with CSK for another season.

Regarding the seasoned veteran, his final competitive match occurred on May 18 of this year versus RCB. Regarding his future in the lucrative league, he has been silent, and neither his team nor his own have officially confirmed anything as of yet.

Dhoni, however, is eligible to be an uncapped player change and is most likely to play for another season given the release of the new player regulations prior to the massive IPL 2025 auction.
