'Don't want to think about result, focus on process'- Jemimah Rodrigues on T20 WC preparations

The first match of the India women’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign will take place at Dubai International Stadium on October 4 versus New Zealand. It is noteworthy that, despite nine editions of the prestigious competition, India has not yet succeeded in winning the championship.

Jemimah Rodrigues, the Indian women’s batter, has disclosed where she gets her inspiration for the competition ahead of the opening game. She said that the journey appeared genuine when the men’s team lifted the T20 World Cup 2024 title in June. After 13 years, she even recounted the excitement just before Indian men lifted an ICC trophy.

“I recall seeing the men’s championship match. On Day 3, we had a Test match versus South Africa, and we watched the match till one or two in the morning. I can still clearly recall that moment. Though we’ve always dreamed of winning the World Cup, it seemed much more plausible once they triumphed soon before our own. When we witnessed Rohit Sharma and the squad raising the trophy, our ambition and passion to win was stoked. There were a number of us in the room, and while I typically like to chat a lot, we all became silent when that happened, Jemimah told Star Sports.

I don’t want to dwell too much on the outcome: Jemimah Rodrigues

Australia proved to be the superior side on the day of the finals, despite India’s women’s team coming very close to taking home the championship in 2020. The team would seek to make up for being placed in the same group as six-time winner Australia. Jemimah pointed out that she is only considering the procedure—not the outcome.

“To be honest, I don’t want to dwell too much on the outcome. Although the dream exists, we are more concerned with the steps involved and what has to be done. We’ll let God handle the outcome,” she said in closing.
