India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test, Day 5 Stats Review: India's record-breaking winning streak and other stats

On the fifth day of the second Test in Kanpur, India’s finished off a convincing victory over Bangladesh after establishing themselves as the clear leaders the day before. India strengthened their standing at the WTC 2023–25 points table by completing a 2-0 rout in the series.

When Bangladesh got back into action on 26/2, Mominul Haque was lost to Ravichandran Ashwin early on. After coming in, Ravindra Jadeja (3 for 34) caused Bangladesh to collapse from 91/3 to 94/7 in four overs, with the left-arm spinner taking three of the wickets. Shadman Islam (50 off 101) and Najmul Hossain Shanto bravely put up 51 for the fifth wicket.

Although Mushfiqur Rahim (37 off 63) produced another act of resistance to rescue the score from 146, Jasprit Bumrah (3 for 17) claimed the final three wickets, including that of the seasoned wicketkeeper-batter, leaving India needing just 95 runs to win in the fourth innings.

The Indian openers lost both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill early on, but they came out with the same resolve to swing as they had in the previous innings. With just three runs needed to win, Virat Kohli (29* off 37) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (51 off 45) held steady until Jaiswal fell. After that, it was easy as India won their 18th straight Test series at home thanks to a run of runs scored by Rishabh Pant.

Here are the key stats from Day 5 of India’s vs Bangladesh, 2nd Test:

1 — Shadman Islam became the first Bangladesh opener to score a Test fifty in India.

8, 2 — Yashasvi Jaiswal became the second Indian player and the eighth player overall to score fifty runs or more in both innings of a test at a rate more than run-a-ball. In 2011, Virender Sehwag became the first player to ever score an Indian goal against the West Indies in Delhi. The only player in the world to have accomplished this twice is Harry Brook of England.

18 – India increased the number of home series victories in a row to 18. Australia, with its two separate 10-streaks, is the second best squad of all time.

4306 is the number of days that have passed since India’s last home Test series defeat.
