IND vs BAN 2024: India vs Bangladesh, 2nd Test - Who Said What?

In Kanpur, Team India successfully pulled off a heist against Bangladesh. The two teams were facing off at the well-known Green Park Stadium. Notably, the conflict, which started on September 27, was primarily a rain-soaked event. After winning the toss, the home team encouraged the visitors to bat first.

Bangladesh batted for 35 overs on Day 1 before the day was called off due to poor visibility. By that point, the visitors had lost three wickets and scored 107 runs overall. After the first day of play, the soggy outfield and constant rain made days two and three of play impossible.

At last, on Day 4, the rain gods parted, and the Indian squad performed admirably with the ball to restrict the visitors on a bright day. Bangladesh scored 233 runs in the first innings, with Mominul Haque remaining unbeaten at 107* runs and Mehidy Hasan Miraz adding 20 more. Jasprit Bumrah, a bowler, claimed the most wickets for the hosts in the first innings, with three.

Day 4 saw Team India come out to bat down by 233 runs, but they showed an attacking mindset as openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Rohit Sharma ignited the team with Jaiswal scoring 72 runs off only 51 deliveries, and Rohit chipping in with 23 more. In addition, Gill scored 39 runs, while KL Rahul and Virat Kohli chipped in with 47 and 68 runs, respectively. Consequently, in an audacious move from the captain and a unique instance in Test history, India declared their first innings (285/3) without being knocked out.

Day 4’s latter hours saw Bangladesh come out to bat, and the team was soon under pressure. India dominated the Test series, sweeping the visitors clean and chasing down a modest target of 95 runs on the last day of play. Bangladesh were swept out for 146 runs.

1. India’s attacking mindset

The offensive approach that India took on Day 4 of the match was one of the main talking points of the match. India walked out to bat and quickly scored runs, declaring on the same day after restricting Bangladesh to 233 runs in the first innings. They had scored 285 runs by then.

2. Jasprit Bumrah’s masterclass

One of the game’s top performances was veteran Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who claimed three wickets in the first and second innings. Bumrah’s spell made sure that the host team continued to chase a victory despite running out of time to secure the victory for India.

3. Mominul Haque’s resilience

In the first innings, Bangladesh was under pressure from India’s bowling attack. But Bangladesh managed a first-inning total of 233 runs thanks to a masterful performance by Mominul Haque, who scored 107* runs in 194 deliveries.

Losing skipper, Najmul Hossain Shanto

We didn’t bat well… Yes, if you look at all batters, they played 30-40 balls and then got out. It’s important for one batsman to get big runs. The way Ashwin and Jaddu batted, but you need to take wickets in those moments. The way we bowled both innings – I hope Mehidy continues well in next Test match.

Winning skipper, Rohit Sharma

In life, we all keep moving on and at some stage, you work with different personnel. When Rahul bhai said he was done, it was a fantastic time we had together. Then life moves on and as a team we had to move on. With Gautam Gambhir…I’ve played with him and what sort of mindset he has. Early days still but very fruitful. To be honest we had to think a lot to keep the game moving forward. When we came on day four, we wanted to get them out as early as possible and see what we can do with the bat. It was not about the runs we get but the overs we wanted to bowl at them.

The pitch didn’t have much for bowlers but to get a game out of that pitch was a great effort from the bowlers. The batters were willing to take the risk and we were ready to give ourselves a chance at a result. Look, Akash has been good and he’s played a lot domestic cricket. There’s enough overs in the legs and the guy can do the job the team is expecting him to do. He can bowl long spells and we want to create a bunch of bowlers who are ready to play Test cricket at any given point. If someone is injured, you should be able to replace them.

Player of the Match, Yashasvi Jaiswal

Nothing. The situation was different in Chennai and it was different here. 100% every game and every innings is important. I try my best for that and that’s how I prepare. We had a chat that we need to play freely and in our mind we wanted to win the game and we were just going for it.
