October 31 was set as deadline for IPL franchises to finalize retentions

The deadline for the different IPL teams to complete their retentions in advance of the IPL 2025 auction has been set at October 31, 2024. It is important to remember that each side has the option to match (RTM) and may keep up to six players.

A maximum of five capped players and two uncapped (Indian) players may be maintained prior to the auction, following BCCI-announced regulations. In addition, a player will be deemed capped if he makes his debut for his country before October 31. He will be considered uncapped, though, if he is kept as an uncapped player and goes on to participate in an international match prior to the auction day.

With the increase in the big auction purse of INR 20 crore, each franchise will have INR 120 crore to spend during the event. The guidelines for the sale were emphasized in a statement issued by the Indian Premier League.

“The IPL franchise has the freedom to select the combination of retentions and RTMs. A maximum of five capped players and a maximum of two uncapped players may be included in the six retentions/RTMs, according to the IPL announcement.

The IPL has once again set a price of INR 4 crore for retained uncapped players, much as the IPL 2022. Moreover, a new rule has been reinstated, which stipulates that Indian players who have left the game at least five years prior to the season in question should be auctioned off without caps.

The same regulation will permit MS Dhoni of the Chennai Super Kings, who last competed for India at the 2019 ODI World Cup, to enter the auction as an uncapped player.

The 120 crore auction purse will be reduced if a franchise chooses to keep more capped players since the salary of those players will be subtracted from the total.
