Uttar Pradesh's Public Works Department considers portion of Green Park 'hazardous' days before the 2nd IND-BAN Test

A few days prior to the start of the second Test between India and Bangladesh, the Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) declared the Balcony C stand at the Kanpur Green Park to be “dangerous.”

Ankit Chatterjee, the CEO of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association, revealed the information and the quantity of seats that will be available for purchase by the general public. The number of seats has been slashed by 50%.

We have decided not to sell all of the Balcony C tickets in response to the PWD’s concerns. With a capacity of 4,800, we have been instructed to offer only 1700 tickets for the stand. “The next few days will see the continuation of the repair work,” Chatterjee said, as reported by The Indian Express.

“The floodlight next to the VIP pavilion has eight broken bulbs. Visibility has always been an issue in Kanpur Green Park.

A large gathering of people congregating in that area of the site posed a serious concern, according to a PWD engineer.

“If supporters start jumping after Rishabh Pant hits a six, this stand won’t be able to support even fifty of them. An individual from the PWD engineering department continued, “This area of the stadium is in serious need of repair.

There have also been rumours that PWD authorities and UPCA officials met yesterday evening close to the stand, at approximately five o’clock, and decided that the stand would not be able to support the full capacity.

Floodlights remain a source of congestion.

A representative from the sports department also mentioned that there was a serious problem with eight bulbs next to one of the pavilions and expressed the hope that the India-New Zealand Test in 2021 would not be repeated.

The primary cause of it is pollution. Ironically, poor lighting caused India to lose the previous Test match against New Zealand at this location even though all of the floodlights were on. “Hopefully, we won’t have to experience that humiliation once more,” an officer from the sports department said.

It’s interesting to note that Rachin Ravindra and Ajaz Patel’s unwavering resistance for the final wicket prevented New Zealand from losing the Kanpur Test, with the Indian team having to settle for a painful draw due to poor light.
