In the second Twenty20 International at Mackay’s Great Barrier Reef Arena, Australia defeated New Zealand by 29 runs to win the three-match series. Alyssa Healy, the captain, got off to a scorching start, scoring 38 runs off just 25 deliveries. With 10 runs scored, her opening partner Beth Mooney flopped, which is a little worrying because she is going through a difficult time before the T20 World Cup. Remarkably, Mooney’s last fifty-seven in Twenty20 Internationals came in 2017.
Elysse Perry, batting third, did a good job supporting the captain but was unable to build on her early lead. Ashleigh Gardner scored 18 runs off 19 balls, while the all-rounder scored 34 off 33 balls. But after that, wickets started to fall like cards on a house. One issue that needs to be addressed right away by the club management is that all of the remaining players only scored single digits.
Amelia Karr claimed four wickets for New Zealand, while Brooke Halliday claimed two. After Australia was bowled out for 143 runs, it was anticipated that New Zealand would be able to match the hosts’ total and win the match. Gardner was named Player of the Match for Australia after dominating with the ball. Darcie Brown, Annabel Sutherland, and Georgia Wareham each took one wicket, but the player in form claimed three.

Their bowlers performed admirably before the T20 World Cup, but the hitters will need to improve in the upcoming game, especially since there won’t be any pressure to win the championship.
