Jay Shah will remain BCCI Secretary ahead of the Apex Council meeting

The veteran Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), was chosen to be the new chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), the highest cricket regulatory body. He will take office on December 1. The identity of the Secretary in Shah’s absence is the subject of intense conjecture. The reports said that the agenda for the upcoming Secretary will not be discussed in the BCCI Apex Council meeting, which is set for September 25.

Notably, Jay Shah will serve as Secretary of the 93rd Annual General Meeting in Bengaluru until he is formally inducted into the ICC. For those who don’t know, on August 27, Shah was chosen to serve as the ICC’s chairman. At the age of 35, he took over from Greg Barclay, the previous chairman, to become the organization’s youngest chairman ever.

Jay Shah serve as Secretary till November, as stated by the PTI

In relation to the AGM, the council will talk about the current work on the Bengaluru location of the new National Cricket Academy (NCA). For more than 20 years, the city has served as the center for cricket players visiting NCA. Discussions on Byjus’s ongoing issue of non-payment of dues will also be covered during the meeting. The Indian team shirt was previously sponsored by the Ed-tech company under a three-year agreement that was struck in 2019.

The dispute started when the partnership gave up on paying the dues from October 2022 to March 2023, and the contract was extended to one year beyond 2021. After the case went to court, everything appeared to be resolved. Byjus terminated its agreement with BCCI in March of the previous year.

Annual General Meeting Agenda Highlights:

– Byju’s Matter: The discussion will canter on a financial settlement problem involving the ed-tech company that terminated its sponsorship agreement with BCCI in March of last year. The outstanding debt from October 2022 to March 2023 is at the centre of the dispute.

– Opening of the National Cricket Academy: The latest developments for this cutting-edge academy on the outskirts of Bengaluru will be discussed. The NCA now runs its operations out of the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Renovation of the BCCI Headquarters: Permission for the Mumbai headquarters’ external renovations will be requested.
