The bowlers from Pakistan felt that Morne Morkel was nothing in front of them: Basit Ali

Former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali recently asserted that during his brief tenure with the team, former South African pacer Morne Morkel’s teaching efforts were hampered by the bowlers on the national team. Ali voiced his dissatisfaction after India’s resounding victory over Bangladesh in the first Test in Chennai, where the Indian bowling team—now coached by Morkel—displayed remarkable skill and strategy.

India’s triumph and Pakistan’s recent difficulties have highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of each team’s bowling groups. In contrast, India recently defeated Bangladesh by 280 runs, while Pakistan lost the Test series 0–2 at home. When it came to the mindset of the Pakistani pacers, Ali was blunt.

“The bowlers from Pakistan believe they are greater than cricket. They believed that Morne Morkel held no significance in our presence,”

He blamed well-known individuals like Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, and Shaheen Afridi for their mindset and the team’s subpar performance during the World Cup while Morkel was leading them.

After Pakistan’s elimination from the T20 World Cup, Morkel broke away and joined the Indian coaching staff. His influence was evident right away in India’s match against Bangladesh, as bowlers Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah produced outstanding performances.

There are differences in class, mindset, and way of thinking: Basit Ali

“We discovered the distinction. The same thing happened when Bangladesh played Pakistan, giving the impression that Pakistan was totally out of the game. The Bangladesh that whitewashed Pakistan is the same one. The distinction is in class, mindset, and thinking,” he continued.

In order to bolster his argument over Pakistan’s declining bowling talent, Ali had earlier drawn comparisons between the current bowling team of India and the renowned Pakistani pacers, such as Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Shoaib Akhtar.
