Rishabh Pant's boyhood coach regards the comeback hundred 'invaluable'

In the opening match in Chennai, India’s wicketkeeper-battler Rishabh Pant celebrated a stunning return to Test cricket by smashing a magnificent century against Bangladesh. In India’s second innings, the left-hand hitter’s knock of 109 put the hosts in a dominant position.

After a terrifying auto collision and a rigorous recuperation regimen, Pant’s comeback to Test cricket was much anticipated. Devender Sharma, who was his boyhood coach, had told him to play with his head down and to respect good deliveries.

“I’m thrilled for Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant finished with 13 fours and 4 sixes during his innings, and his century came at a critical moment, helping India set a challenging target of 515 for Bangladesh. Pant has been coached by Sharma at the Sonnet Club since he was a preteen, and Sharma stressed the importance of this performance.

I was a little disappointed that he didn’t get the hundred that he could have in the first innings. However, he was perfect today. Since it’s his first international century since his comeback, this hundred is significant for him, according to Devendra, who was cited by Telegraph online.

The timing of this knock couldn’t have been more perfect: Devender Sharma

The southpaw’s career reached a major turning point with the century, as it tied MS Dhoni’s record of six Test hundreds for an Indian wicketkeeper-batter in a far shorter amount of games. Despite having little time to prepare for red-ball cricket, Pant was psychologically prepared to play in his preferred format.

This knock will be right up there after the accident and the kind of rehabilitation he had to endure. After everything Rishabh has been through, test cricket is hard on the body. But now that we’ve all seen it, his mental tenacity is unmatched,” Devender remarked.

His coach expressed his satisfaction with his performance in particular, saying that it was much more enjoyable to watch his comeback innings than his well-known Gabba innings from 2021.

“The series-winning knock at the Gabba will forever be special for everyone but if as a coach I am asked about this knock, it is invaluable and couldn’t have come at a more opportune time,” he said.
