Former India head coach Ravi Shastri suggested that Virat Kohli should try and unsettle the spinners instead of letting them bowl to their plans. This was after Kohli gave his wicket to Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the second innings of the first Test on Day 2, in Chennai, on Friday, September 20.
In previous years, Kohli has struggled against the spinners. He has had eighteen dismissals from spinners since 2021. He was declared LBW on Friday after failing to connect on a flip shot intended to be harmless from Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
Replays eventually revealed that the Delhi hitter had edged the ball onto his pad, but he chose not to take the DRS. Shastri responded to Virat Kohli’s dismissal by saying that he should try to use his feet, play sweep shots, and occasionally attempt aerial shots over the in-field. As a result, this could throw off the rival spinners’ strategy.
“In the past two to three years, he has particularly reached out to spinners. But he has also amassed a huge run total. You’d prefer to see him use his feet more often. Reach the ball’s pitch and most likely use the sweep. It’s imperative that you adapt to the current circumstances and don’t hesitate to take risks when the opportunity arises. Rather than letting him keep bowling at you, you should try to do anything to spook the spinners. When he scored a lot of runs, that’s what he did a lot,” Shastri stated in the commentary box.

Additionally, Ravi Shastri mentioned that some of the recent Test match pitches used by India haven’t been ideal for batting. In addition, he found it humorous that Gill was gently dismissed.
