Gautam Gambhir credits former Indian skipper Virat Kohli for revolutionising the pace attack in Tests

Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of India, praised Virat Kohli for assembling a potent bowling unit while serving as captain. India won 40 of the 68 Test matches they played under his captaincy, the most of any Indian captain in history. While players like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, and Umesh Yadav dominated in foreign circumstances during his tenure, he transformed the culture within the national squad and concentrated on the development of pace bowlers.

Gambhir discussed Kohli’s mindset when playing away from home and acknowledged his contribution to the pace revolution. India has won Test matches in Australia, South Africa, and England under Kohli, despite the fact that the squad has historically failed in these locations. During the trip, Gambhir talked about the value of having a potent bowling unit and mentioned that collecting 20 wickets is the only way to win a Test match.

“You created an extremely potent bowling unit, which is a truly remarkable feat. It takes 20 wickets to win a test match. One can’t win until they don’t have a potent bowling lineup. You became the nation’s most successful Test captain because of that. You must take the credit. Having a good six or seven batters is easy for a batter, but what matters more is how you recognized and handled the quick bowlers on the pitch. Having Umesh, Bumrah, Ishant, Shami, and winning abroad, Gambhir said to Kohli during a BCCI conversation.

Jasprit Bumrah is the most complete all-format bowler: Virat Kohli

Regarding the culture of bowling in India, Kohli mentioned that Zaheer Khan is a legend in the sport and that Ishant Sharma has played for his country in more than 100 Test matches. In addition, he discussed Mohammed Shami’s value to the Indian Test team and referred to Bumrah as the most all-around bowler.

“The first thing that springs to mind when discussing Ishant Sharma is his youthful spell on Ricky Ponting in Perth during the 2007–08 tour. Regarding Ishant Sharma’s cricket career, he has played in over 100 Test matches for India. Zaheer Khan, a fantastic 50-over World Cup, and these many wickets for India in Test cricket.

Despite being a fantastic T20 bowler, Mohammed Shami is not a well-known bowler worldwide. He is among the world’s top Test bowlers, and his performance in the 50-over World Cup was noteworthy. The most comprehensive all-format bowler is Bumrah, according to Kohli.
