A five-person ICC team will evaluate Pakistan's Champions Trophy 2025 preparedness

An important stage of the preparations is about to start as Pakistan gets ready to host the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. The International Cricket Council (ICC) will send a five-person committee to Karachi on Tuesday evening to conduct a thorough four-day evaluation of Pakistan’s preparations for the esteemed competition.

This visit comes following local media reports that repair work appears to be behind schedule at the designated locations, namely Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, National Stadium in Karachi, and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is still optimistic about their capacity to fulfil deadlines, nevertheless.

The ICC delegation will thoroughly assess stadiums, practice facilities, and hotels

The delegation is made up of top officials, senior events manager, events manager, security manager, general manager of cricket, and production manager. Assuring that every arrangement satisfies the high standards anticipated for an international competition of this kind will be the main focus of their evaluation.

“The reconstruction of the stadiums in Karachi and Lahore is moving along quickly, and the PCB is optimistic that the building firms will accomplish their goals on schedule. According to a PCB representative, “These upgrades are not only necessary, but also a crucial step in elevating our venues to meet the expectations of the modern game.”

The PCB is resolutely committed to showcasing our venues: PCB spokesperson

With dates set for February 19–March 9, 2025, the Champions Trophy will have an ICC budget of 65 million. India’s involvement in the event is still up in the air, but Pakistan is keen to demonstrate that it can host the entire competition. This has prompted discussions about a possible hybrid model that might be used, akin to the Asia Cup from the previous year, in which Indian matches might, if needed, be held outside of Pakistan.

“In order to offer top-notch amenities and improved experiences for spectators, athletes, officials, and broadcasters alike, the two stadiums needed to undergo major renovations. The PCB spokeswoman stated, “The PCB is steadfastly committed to promoting our venues as top-notch travel destinations, upholding the highest international standards, and strengthening our position on the international sporting stage.”

All eyes will be on the ICC delegation’s assessment when their tour comes to an end on September 21. Their conclusions will be very important in deciding if Pakistan is prepared to host this important cricket tournament.
