On Saturday, September 14, in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 match between the Barbados Royals and Trinbago Knight Riders, Rovman Powell and Jason Holder skilfully executed a breathtaking catch to remove the dangerous Nicholas Pooran.
One of the best catches of this type was seen at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, where Powell and Holder displayed outstanding presence of mind on the boundary ropes. When it happened, Trinbago was chasing 157 in the ninth over of their innings.
Pooran attempted a ground ball to Keshav Maharaj, but the ball bounced off his bat’s toe end. Powell ran across from long off, took it high above his head, and nestled under it. He was going to cross the ropes, but he realised just in time, so he quickly chose to toss the ball to Holder, who was running across straightaway. The outstanding teamwork resulted in the Royals taking a crucial wicket, and the all-rounder had no trouble finishing the catch.

In the CPL 2024, Trinbago Knight Riders hand the Barbados Royals their first loss
Akeal Hosein hit two doubles in the opening over to stun the Royals after the Trinbago Knight Riders won the toss and chose to field first. Quinton de Kock hit a counterattacking 39 off 21 deliveries, while Rivaldo Clarke, the number four batsman, found it difficult to switch up his strikes throughout his 18 from 24 balls innings. Holder was dismissed for a duck by the Royals in between being dismissed. In order to reach a competitive score, the home team required Powell and David Miller to establish a solid partnership after being put in a hazardous position at 71/5 in the eleventh over.

Despite Miller’s impressive cameo, Powell’s team reached 156/7 in 20 overs thanks to an undefeated 38-ball 59. With a final tally of 3/13, Waqar Salamkheil emerged as the Knights’ best bowler.
After Sunil Narine and Jason Roy were dismissed by Maheesh Theekshana in the first three overs, Shaqkere Parris and Nicholas Pooran established a vital 51-run partnership off 39 balls. In the fourteenth over, the Knights were cruising at 106/3 with Keacy Carty playing a wonderful knock of 32.

They needed 51 off the final six, which is very much achievable in today’s cricket. But in the last overs, they kept losing wickets until Hosein’s 10-ball 20 and Terrance Hinds’ undefeated five-ball 14 enabled Trinbago to cross the finish line with two wickets and one ball remaining.
