Former Australia great Ricky Ponting praised rising prodigy Jake Fraser-McGurk profusely, citing him as one of the world’s most promising batsmen. Although Ponting acknowledged that the young batter has extraordinary talent, he is still developing as a player.
Fraser-McGurk played his first ODI earlier in the year against the West Indies. He made his T20I debut in the recently concluded Scotland series. He was finally left out of Australia’s opening Twenty20 international match against England due to his lacklustre performance in the T20I series.

“He has extraordinary talent. He has skill in striking the ball. But he remains very much a rough diamond. Similar to me, I doubt he has figured out the best course of action in his own mind yet. Although Ponting was said by India Today, “I mean, he only goes one way, but when he’s thinking about hitting the ball to different parts of the ground is when you see the best Jake Fraser-McGurk quite often.”
Ponting praised the young batter’s ball-hitting skills even more and predicted that he would play all formats for Australia in the future. The youthful hitter, according to the former international, has no fear and is a rocket in the field.

He’ll sort of get trapped when attempting to hit him with a delivery that is often down to mid-wicket or over long-on. However, if he focusses on scoring from all angles around the field, he’s as clean a striker as I’ve ever seen. He’s not a huge kid, maybe 5 feet 10 inches tall, but he hits the ball really hard, has no fear, and is a weapon in the field. I believe he has the potential to be an Australian three-format player in the future,” Ponting continued.
