IND vs BAN 2024: Bangladesh names a 16-person squad for the Test series

The 16-member Bangladeshi team for the two-match Test series on Thursday, September 12, was announced ahead of the highly anticipated journey to India. The team still includes veterans like Shakib Al Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and Mushfiqur Rahim; the comparatively new additions include Nayeem Hasan and Nahid Rana. Significantly, four days before the opening match, which is scheduled to take place at Chennai’s historic MA Chidambaram Stadium, Bangladesh will arrive in the neighbourhood on September 15.

On the other side, hosts India will be in Chennai by Thursday night, giving them at least three more days in the host city to acclimatise to the weather. A day after the Duleep Trophy first round concluded, India had already announced their 15-person team.

Ban makes a compelling case to qualify for the WTC Final.

In terms of the most recent World Test Championship 2023–25 points standings, Bangladesh has risen to the fourth rank following their thumping of Pakistan in the two Test matches held in Rawalpindi.

With four Tests left in their current cycle, they could be able to guarantee a spot in the final match in June 2025 if they win at least four of them. The current table-topper, India, will also be making their third consecutive trip to the WTC finale, which will take place from June 11–15, 2025, at Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Bangladesh tour of India 2024 Schedule:
