Jay Shah-led ACC has announced the Women's Under-19 T20 Asia Cup

The Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup, which took place last year, effectively expanded and demonstrated the genuine potential of junior cricket. In the most recent development, a significant cricket tournament has been announced by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), the subcontinent’s governing organization, following the announcement by the premier cricket regulating body, the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The Women’s Under-19 T20 Asia Cup has been introduced by the ACC. The Under-19 T20 World Cup is a major event that Asian cricket teams hope to prepare for by hosting this tournament every two years. The significant move was made by the ACC on Wednesday during an executive board meeting in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia.

The inaugural competition is scheduled by the council to take place somewhere in mid-December. According to this, the competition will effectively serve as a prelude to the international ICC T20 event. Malaysia is scheduled to host the Women’s T20 World Cup in January and February of 2025.

However, doubt still lurks over the venues for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2024 along with the number of teams competing in the intercontinental tournament. Speaking on the occasion, the new ICC chairman and the current ACC president, Jay Shah, stated that the launch of the new event will assist emerging women cricketers to polish their abilities and display them on a greater scale.

“Asian cricket is at a turning point right now. The Women’s U-19 Asia Cup is a tremendous accomplishment, giving young female cricket players a much-needed stage on which to hone their abilities and display their brilliance,” cited Shah as saying.

“This initiative strengthens the future of women’s cricket in Asia, and we are proud of the lasting impact these decisions will have, not only within our member nations but across the global cricketing community,” he concluded.
