Following his appointment as England’s white-ball team head coach, Brendon McCullum praised Jos Buttler as the nation’s finest limited-overs batsman. White-ball captain Buttler and McCullum will work together to try and turn around the Three Lions’ poor performance in the last two ICC events.
Having been England’s red-ball coach since June 2022, McCullum will take up the role of white-ball coach in January 2025. His agreement is renewed till the end of 2027.
In a recent interview, the former captain of New Zealand lavished Jos Buttler with accolades.
“In my opinion, Jos has had a fantastic career. He is possibly the best white-ball player England has ever had, even if he were to retire tomorrow. McCullum said to Sky Sports, “He has nothing left to prove.”
In England’s 2019 ODI World Cup victory over New Zealand, Buttler hit a vital 59 runs. Also, in 2022, he guided the dominant European team to the T20 World Cup victory. Buttler has outstanding qualifications for playing white-ball cricket, particularly in the shortest format. His astounding strike rates in ODIs and T20Is are 117.09 and 146.30, respectively.
England did not advance to the ODI World Cup 2023 or the T20 World Cup 2024 knockout stages. To change the fortunes, McCullum believes that new players must be added to the limited overs sides.

“I believe there is a strong desire for change. Both the T20 and one-day squads have had remarkable success. He continued, “It needs to be revitalized and needs some of that fresh talent that has probably been inspired by the exact people that they will ultimately replace.

This month, England will play five ODIs and three T20Is against their bitter rivals, Australia, to mark their comeback to white-ball cricket. On Wednesday, September 11, the first Twenty20 International is played in Southampton.
