Travis Head was benched out while Marcus Stoinis (18), Marnus Labuschagne (20), and Tim David (35) all received starts. None of them were successful in capitalising on their opportunities.

The one batter who made some headway in the chase, Alex Carey, was ultimately struck out for 99 thanks to lethal bowling from Rabada. Australia was eventually defeated by 164 runs after being bowled out for 252. With this victory, South Africa evened the five-match series at 2-2.
