The ICC Cricket 2023 ODI World has only three days left, and the competing nations are putting the last touches on their preparations as they square off in the warm-up games.
On Monday, October 2, the four participating teams were England, Bangladesh, New Zealand, and South Africa.
Bangladesh vs. England
The reigning champions eventually kicked off their 2023 ODI World campaign with a practice match against Bangladesh after their first warm-up match against India was postponed due to inclement weather. The game was trimmed to 37 overs per side in Guwahati due to rain once more. Despite choosing to bat first after winning the toss, Bangladesh didn’t have a bright start as opener Litton Das (5 off 6) and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (2 off 11) both made hasty retreats to the pavilion.
With their outstanding innings, Tanzid Hasan (45 off 44) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (74 off 89) kept the innings together. Bangladesh completed their innings with a score of 188/9 in 37 overs thanks to their innings. The best bowler for England was Reece Topley, who finished with a 3/23 in five overs.
Dawid Malan was eliminated by Mustafizur Rahman in the first over alone, dealing a severe damage to England’s response. England eventually won the match by four wickets in 24.1 overs, thanks to a half-century from Moeen Ali (56 off 39) and valuable contributions from Jos Buttler (30 off 15) and Jonny Bairstow (34 off 21).
South Africa vs. New Zealand
When Kane Williamson, the captain of New Zealand, won the toss and chose to bat first, his team’s performance supported the choice, scoring 321/6 in the allocated 50 overs. Glenn Philips (43 off 40), Tom Latham (52 off 56), and Devon Conway (78 off 73) all contributed runs for New Zealand.
Reeza Hendricks, the South African opener, was out in the first over of the reply, but Quinton de Kock (84* off 89), Rassie van der Dussen (51 off 56), Heinrich Klaasen (39 off 37), and David Miller (18* off 26) all had outstanding performances that helped stabilize the innings. When play was halted by rain after 37 overs, the trio helped their team reach 211/4. There was no room for further play, and the DLS Method determined that New Zealand won the game by a score of 7 runs.
