Twitter Reactions: 19-wicket day ends with South Africa on top vs Sri Lanka on Day 2

On a day where a staggering 19 wickets fell in quick succession, hosts South Africa finished the second day of the first Test match against Sri Lanka in the lead. The Proteas, who started the day with a score of 80/4 after play was interrupted on the first day owing to rain and a wet outfield, would have hoped for a better batting effort. The first batter to be removed soon after the game started, though, was Kyle Verreynne.

Shortly after the game started, though, Kyle Verreynne was the first batter to be removed.

In a series of overs, Prabhat Jayasuriya claimed wickets, bringing South Africa to seven down. Following his stranding on 49 for 40 deliveries, most of which were at the non-striker’s end, captain Temba Bavuma brought up a well-earned half-century. Minutes before the scheduled lunch break, Bavuma was removed for a heroic 70-run knock, which resulted in the session being extended for 30 minutes. The home team only managed to score 191 runs before their innings ended.

Marco Jansen caused chaos in the Lankan essay’s opening ten overs, dismissing three of the first four top-order batsmen with his beautiful channels. With four wickets down and their score at 32, Sri Lanka was reduced to complete chaos as the dents persisted. Jansen was the main wrecker, with career-best figures of 7/13 in 6.5 overs, and Lahiru Kumara’s pair of streaky mishits were the reason they finished with 42.

The start of South Africa’s second innings was considerably more calm. Aiden Markram and Tony de Zorzi appeared at ease in the middle for a while before Jayasuriya got rid of the former to record his 100th death in Test cricket. Wiaan Mulder was sent out before the team’s known batters in a move that took many by surprise. After contributing 15 valuable runs to the total, he left.

Shortly after, Markram was hit with a delivery that passed through him, leaving him three runs short of a fifty. Sri Lanka had a lot of catching up to do in the rest of the game as South Africa finished the day in a dominant position with a lead of 281 runs.

Here’s how the fans reacted to Day 2 of the first Test between South Africa and Sri Lanka:

So basically it is very difficult for India

— Siddhant (@Siddhant312309) November 28, 2024

Not very difficult if we win 3 games out of 5.
If NZ lose atleast 1 out of 3 & SL winning atleast 1 game out of 2 against AUS at home. Then ind vs SA final on cards. If my guess is correct then Most likely ind will play 3 finals against SA in 1 yr gap incl CT.

Decent figures from Jansen in 1st test – SA vs SL

Test match in Durban.
SA vs SL
When such collapse happens, few of the players have to have abnormal braveness to neutralize and concur the situation.
